Whether travelling for business or pleasure, this issue of Paradise has Air Niugini passengers well covered. There’s a comprehensive guide to Sydney, a peek inside one of the world’s most iconic hotels, and a rundown on a flurry of hotel activity in Port Moresby.

The Sydney guide provides tips on how to get the most out of the Harbour City, including lounge options for Air Niugini passengers, how to get from the airport to the city, accommodation choices, co-working spaces, places to eat, and places to meet from small venues to larger conference areas.

Sydneysider and celebrity chef Neil Perry weighs in with some advice on things to do in Sydney, where to go for coffee, his favourite after-work drinking spot and, of course, some restaurant recommendations.

Singapore’s Marina Bay Sands is the iconic hotel we peek inside, perhaps best known for its 57th-floor rooftop infinity swimming pool that spans the three towers of the 1850-room building.

After a private pickup at Changi Airport in a luxurious Mercedes Maybach, our writer checks in to a stylishly designed room with a balcony garden that overlooks the South China Sea.

Adjacent to the hotel is a shopping complex called The Shoppes, with a staggering 80 restaurants and 270 stores.

Port Moresby hotels, meanwhile, are gearing up for a predicted visitor influx that will be driven by the anticipated go ahead of the Papua LNG project and major events such as Papua New Guinea fielding a team in Australia’s National Rugby League in 2028.

The country’s largest hotel operator, Coral Sea Hotels, is upgrading six of its eight properties, while others are refurbishing restaurants and rooms.

This issue also includes the annual almanac, which lists the key events around the Air Niugini network this year, from arts festivals to fashion parades and sporting events.

On the topic of sport, we preview the new Oceania Football Confederation Professional League, which has teams competing from seven Pacific nations, including PNG. We look at how the new PNG rugby league team, the PNG Chiefs, is taking shape, and we journey down memory lane to a cricket match that took place in 1975.

That was the year the Clive Lloyd’s mighty West Indies cricket team visited PNG, playing two matches against the PNG national team.

“I can’t tell you how wonderful it was,” Lloyd, 81, recalls from his home in London. “Wonderful country, wonderful people.”

Talking of legends, we also go behind the scenes at a concert rehearsal with PNG’s famed musician George Telek who is featured on our cover.
